Insurance cover

Swiss Old – Age, Surviving Dependents and Invalidity Insurance  (1st pillar)
The insurance is compulsory from the age of 17. Rights for a retirement pension are granted in principle the moment a person reaches the legal retirement age (status of the year 2012: men 65 years, women 64 years).

Swiss Unemployment Insurance
Covers allowances in case of unemployment. Due to bilateral agreements, benefits from the ALV can also be claimed in other European Countries.

Pension Fund (BVG) (2nd pillar)
Every person who accomplished the 17th year of age has to be registered into a occupational benefit plan, covering risks and death from the 18th year and old age provision from the 25th year of age. Benefits are paid regardless of the place of residence.
When the employee no longer works for a Swiss company these benefits will be transferred to a blocked bank account or a blocked insurance policy. This insures ongoing insurance coverage and the benefits are paid at retirement age. More detailed information is available on request.
(The yearly minimum gross income must be 21’060 CHF)

Accident Insurance
All employees are insured against occupational accidents with the SUVA (Schweizerische Unfallversicherungsanstalt; Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund). Cover extends to non-occupational accidents for employees working at least 8 hours per week. The coverage ends exactly 30 days after termination of employment.

Health Insurance
Employees are insured by the employer (fee totally paid by the employer). Sympany (Swiss illness insurance company) covers basic health insurance costs. Please note that the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG- Krankenversicherungsgesetz) stipulates that all persons (including holder of non Swiss passport) resident in Switzerland must have basic health insurance cover. The coverage ends at the last day of employment.

Continuation of Salary
Employees unable to work because of
Accident: as of the 4th day daily allowance = 80% of net salary
Illness: as of the 31st day daily allowance = 80% of net salary
