Lighting Engineer
Job Description

Responsible for the ships entertainment lighting systems and its operation.
Principal Functions

General Duties
• Under instruction from the Production Manager, Operate and maintain the ships onboard technical equipment with primary responsibility for the lighting systems.   

Specific Duties
• Liaise with the Production Manager to ensure full technical support is given to the entertainment program.
• Operate the Grand MA Lighting Desk, Show Control Playback and various effects equipment for all main events in the Royal Court Theatre.
• Attend Band calls and rehearsals to ensure top quality professional shows and events.
• Liaise with visiting acts and onboard RADA Company to provide creative Lighting design and operation.
• Report any Fault to the Production Manager and action any necessary Repairs.
• Regularly test all the ships entertainment lighting systems, document and take action on results.
• Provide Supervisory duties over Entertainment Technicians.
• Provide Training in the operation of the Ships lighting systems and its maintenance to Entertainment technicians, as well as to Entertainment staff as required.
• Assist in Sets and strikes of all technical equipment on the ship's stages, accommodating the needs of the large number of musicians and performers who utilise these stages.
• Assist in sets and strikes of technical equipment for all entertainment events, such as bingo games, quizzes, lectures etc.
• Provide technical support for promotional presentations by our onboard revenue partners.
• Provide assistance to the Broadcast team in the lighting of video shoots.
• Ensure all entertainment lighting across the vessel is to the highest achievable standard.
• Prepare suitable handover notes.
• Be responsible for and sign over the equipment in the lighting inventory to relieving lighting Engineers.
Requirements

• Good Management and communication skills
• Strong computer and writing skills.
• Extensive operational, maintenance and repair experience in lighting and effects systems.
• Experience with the operation and programming of Large Capacity Computer Control Desks.
• Full understanding of complex DMX systems, Automated Luminaries, Show Control, Lasers, Smoke systems, Pyrotechnics, Dimming and lighting fixtures.
• Experience of as well as creative ability with Lighting Design.
• Experience of AMX control systems.
• Operational experience of video playback equipment, (DVD, DVCAM, Mpeg2), video switching / routing, scheduling and PowerPoint.
• Basic Knowledge of Video projection equipment.
• A full understanding of electrical properties in association with the relevant equipment onboard.
• Considerable experience of operating lighting for theatrical and musical situations (pop, jazz, standard and classical).
• An ability to communicate well with musicians and artists, overcoming any problems of temperament with diplomacy.
• Neat appearance.
