The CSO’s role onboard our ships is to ensure the stable operation of the computer and Cccommunication networks, thereby providing end-users, which include passengers, with efficient access to the information technology systems. Description
Maintain and support shipboard computer systems so that business users are able to effective utilize the systems in their respective jobs. Manage servers, including file & print, messaging, database and application servers and their associated operating systems and software. Manage security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus, anti-malware, intrusion detection systems and user policies. Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, Wireless Access Points and UPSs. Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs. Ensure satellite network connectivity whenever possible, monitor the status of the satellite equipment and liaise with vendors for upgrades, installs, modifications and servicing. Ensure correct functioning of all satellite telephonic/fax connections and facilities. Administration of all I.T. equipment including installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software and peripheral devices. Troubleshoot and resolve end-user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion. Provide end user application task assistance where there is a reasonable requirement. Monitor network performance, perform network design and capacity planning and provide performance statistics and reports – LAN and WAN. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated Training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Establish service level agreements with end users. Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights. Perform server and security audits. Manage system data backups and recovery. Support or provide guidance to other members of the IT team. Review/process all systems and technology requests in order to provide the most efficient service. Upgrade equipment, hardware and software, where necessary to ensure all systems are kept up-to-date with published standards and recommendations. Provide 2nd-line support to the Entertainment Department for the passenger CyberCafé and WiFi users. Assist Chief Electrician with troubleshooting and support of the PABX. Support navigation / ship control systems / engine control systems in an advisory capacity only, as necessary.
