Beauty & Spa Department

Salons and spas on board most of the luxury cruise ships offer passengers full service treatments ranging from aroma and aqua-spas, body wraps and mud baths, to facials, massages and hair do’s. Even the smaller and older ship are now paying more attention to fitness on board, resulting in an ever growing need for beauty and skin care professionals. Onboard salons and spas are either run in-house or by a concessionaire company who are responsible for hiring of the following cruise ship job positions: hair stylist / hairdresser, beauty therapist / beautician, cosmetologist, nail technician,  physiotherapist, massage therapist, and aerobic &  fitness instructor. The salons are equipped with the latest in beauty technology and it is the responsibility of the staff to put it to good use promoting treatments and pampering passengers. Hours can sometimes be long, especially on formal nights , which usually fall on a sea day.
Wages vary according to your experience and area of expertise, but are however, supplemented by tips and commission from product sales.

Beauty Salon Manager (oversees entire operations of the beauty salon, accounting and management of the salon staff) - extensive beauty salon and managerial experience required. Salary range: $2400-3800 U.S. per month, depending on cruise lines.

Assistant Beauty Salon Manager (manages the day to day operations of the beauty salon as directed by the salon manager) - beauty salon and managerial experience required. Salary range: $2000-2900 U.S. per month, depending on cruise lines. Possibilities for promotion to Salon Manager.

Beautician -  must have one of the following qualifications: CIDESCO, CIBTAC, IHBC, BTEC, CITY AND GUILDS, NVQ'S, ITEC or IA. For applicants applying outside Europe, an International equivalent will be accepted. Note that a qualification in FACIAL and BODY ELECTRICS is essential.

Hair Stylist / Hairdresser - beauty salon experience required. Must have completed a three year hairdressing apprenticeship or full time training course at a certified college. In addition, applicants must be fully qualified in both ladies and men's hairdressing. It is also important that hairdressers can cope with both a busy column and a demanding clientele. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $2200-2900 U.S. per month, depending on gratuities and cruise line. Possibilities for promotion to Assistant Salon Manager.

Massage Therapist - extensive experience required. Must be qualified in Swedish Massage. Any additional qualifications like Aromatherapy, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Reiki Healing or Sports Therapy is a definite plus. Good English Language skills required. Salary range: $2600-3600 U.S. per month, depending on gratuities and cruise line.

Cosmetologist - extensive beauty salon experience required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $2100-2900 U.S. per month, depending on gratuities and cruise line.

Nail Technician - required to have completed a Nail Technician training course and have at least one year's full time salon experience. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $2200-2800 U.S. per month, depending on gratuities and cruise line.

Aerobic & Fitness Instructor - must have an RSA or YMCA Exercise to Music, or an aerobic qualification, a Step certificate, Resistance Weights, e.g.. BAWLA or NABBA or an international equivalent. At least three months experience in teaching is required. Instructors are required to take a variety of aerobic classes, supervise the gymnasium and also offer Personal Training to guests. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $1800-2200 U.S. per month, depending the cruise line.

Alternative Instructor - a limited number of positions are available for Yoga and Tai Chi instructors.

Ja sam se prijavila samo kako bi vam napisala moja iskustva  koja sam imala radeci na brodu u Spa departmnentu za steiner leisure kao nail technician.
elem...radi se svaki dan 12h bez izuzetaka bilo na kopnu bilo na moru. ima se 1 dan slobodno nedeljno sto mogu razbiti u 2 dana po 6 sati. kad ima posla radi se i po 16h sto je bio slucaj samnom jer na aljasci ima posla od 7ujutru do 11 uvece a nekad nemas pauzu za rucak jer im je u cilju da sto vise radis i prodas, ako ti neide prodaja taj cruise moras posle radnog vremena da ides na dodatne obuke u budjavim proizvodima pored normalnih obuka koje cete imati. zapamtite ovo je sve pouzdana informacija radila sam na celebrity cruise ship-u.
stp se tice masaze plata je fenomenalna obicno imate masaze koje traju 45 min al uz to treba da spremite vasu sobu za masazu, da prodate i da se pripremite za sledeceg...necete imati vremena ni da odete u wc da piskite koliko ce nekad biti posla al ponavljam zarada ce biti fenomenalna. 1 ugovor je uglavnom 8 meseci. zena koja salje je maksimalno korektna, sve ispravno organizuje sa intervjuima u beogradu se zove Jelena i ovo je njen broj mob. 0641191752

mislim da je rad sa steiner jedan od tezih poslova nabrodu ako ne u prva 3 po najgorim uslovima. svi masazeri su se zalili na bolove al bio bolestan ili ne bio u bolovima ili ne moras da radis jer je njima jako tesko dati otkaz koliko i nemoguce jer te onda prati novcana kazna...razmislite pa mi se javite ako ocete nadam se da sam pomogla
mada...zivot na brodu je za mene nezamenjiva stvar vracam se na brod samo ne kao spa(jer sam dobila ostecenje rucnog zgloba na tom poslu zbog tenzije i nenormalnog tempa tako da mi se koci desna ruka  sa velikim bolovima kad dugo turpijam nokte, suludo zar ne ) zivot na vbrodu je jedinstven i kome se jednom svidi tesko ce se od njega odvojiti, ma koliko da mi je bilo tesko bilo mi je jedno od najboljih iskustava u zivotu i nebi ih menjala za zdravu ruku nikad. brod je cudo kad budete otisli idecete i sami i ili ce vam se svideti ili nece a sto se ticemorske bolesti ja sam je zaista imala al se posle par dana naviknes i nebude ti muka sem kad je bas neka bura jermi je inace preosetljiv stomak(e da u steineru ako povracas zbog morske bolesti i dalje moras da radis i da se molis da se neispovracas na gosta i da trcis na wc da bacis peglu i da se odma vratis naposao jer ces onda kasniti ako se zadrzis, devojke kojima je bilo muka su padale u nesvest i nisu dobijale slobodno da se oporave tamo je sve work work work...)

Employment information:
With Steiner Transocean you work on board a Cruise ship with an employment contract.
Your first time employment contract with our company is for 6-8 months, after
your first contract, you are able to do a second contract for a minimum of 4 months to
a maximum of 12 months.
Salary is on commission basis 9 - 16 % of all services done and all products sold in the Spa.
Only Spa receptionists will earn a basic wage, all other profession will not.
Tips are 15% of the service price, but up to the passengers to decide.
Monthly commissions range from 2000- 4000 US dollars.
Your commission is paid to you weekly in American dollars, tax free, cash and will include a worldwide medical insurance.
During your 6-8 month contract with Steiner Transocean your food and
accommodation on board a cruise ship is free and all paid for by Steiner Transocean.
Working hours are 5½ day's a week with a 12 hour working shift and an 2 hour break during this working day.
Free time to see the countries you visit is 1½ day's per week.
 
Where do the Cruise ships travel to?
Steiner Transocean has contracts with Cruise ships that are based in: Canada, North America, Caribbean, South America, Europe, Australia and the Far East.
 
What kind of people work for Steiner?
We would like to inform you that Steiner Transocean has more than 2000 staff working in our 118 Spa centres on board Cruise ships from all around the world.
 
The selection of new staff is organised all year around in the following continents: Europe, Canada, North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Far East. Because of this we have international Spa teams on board the Cruise ships.
Most staff are the age of 21 to 35, but you can apply from the age of 19 and there is no age limit.
 
What languages do I need?
The only language you need is English medium level, all other languages are a bonus.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
 Massage/ Physio/ Spa therapists:
A diploma or certificates that covers a total of 150 hours practical and theory knowledge on full body massage is a basic need.
 
Acupuncturists
A certificate or diploma of 3 year study in  Traditional Chinese medicine, certificate/ diploma will need to by licensend  by country's health authority.
Also an qaulification in full body massage, acupunture and chinese patent herbs is required.
 
Beauty therapists:
Diplomas from Cidesco, Itec, Inter clinitique, ROC, or IA College are accepted.
We also accept National diplomas, but the education will need to be a minimum of 2 years and include the following subjects:
Face cleansing therapy, face electrical treatments, electrical body treatments, manicure, pedicure and full body massage.
 
Hairdressers & Barbers:
Diplomas/ certificates from a National college are accepted.
The education for hairdressers will need to be a minimum of 1 year.
Both hairdressers and barbers will need to have an additional 1-year full time work experience as a hairdresser or barber.
 
Fitness-Aerobic instructors:
Need to have two certificates as a basic need.
1/ PT training certificate or Sport academy diploma.
 
2/ Exercise to music certificate (Fisaf/AFA/ IFFA/ SAFE as example).
Any other courses such as Thai Bo, yoga, Pilates, circuit training, body balancing, spinning, Les Mills certificates are only a bonus, but not a basic need.
All Fitness- aerobic instructors need to have 1 year experience teaching exercise to music.
 
Nail stylists:
Need to have a certificate for the system acrylic nails as a basic.
This can be the creative system, easy flow system, OPI system.
Gel system is a bonus, but will not be accepted as a basic system.
Nail stylists need to have 1-year experience and be able to do a new full set of acrylic nails in 1 ½ hour's time.
 
Receptionists:
Do not need a diploma or certificate, but need to speak a high level of English and understand how to work with computers.
Other languages are bonus.
Your job will be at the reception of the Spa centre only, in charge of the appointments made for the hair salon, beauty centre and fitness centre. A bonus would be work experience as receptionist in a Fitness centre, Beauty centre, hairdressing salon.
 
 
 INTERVIEW INFORMATION

-       If possible a portable massage table.
Your practical test will be a 10 min back massage + 10 min face massage.
You will make your test to another applicant – and you will be also a model for another applicant !!!

-      Introduction of yourself and an explanation of your practical test on your models, speak English only
-      Fashion haircut and blow-dry on a female

-      Glamour long hair up style for a Gala evening

All the Barbers will need to bring a VHS video or  DVD (in English only) including the following:
-           Introduction of yourself and an explanation of your practical test on your models, speak English only
-                      Fashion haircut and blow-dry on a Men
-                      Traditional  clean shave  on a Men

All the Fitness-Aerobic instructors will need to be able to teach both Fitness personal training sessions and exercise to music. Please prepare a VHS videotape or DVD  (in English only) with the following:
-           Introduction of yourself in English
-           You teaching a client during a personal training session all the fitness equipment in the gym (50 min)
-           You teaching a group of people a step or an aerobic class (exercise to music class, 50 min)

A ti terapeuti se narade ali i zarade...Imas ti jos vremena do 21,stekni iskustvo prvo ako ti se bas ne zuri... ...Ja taj posao radim vec godinama i veruj mi izuzetno je naporno a tamo preko se radi od 10 do 12 sati.Sem toga moras imati dobre preporuke,dobar engleski i materijalno potkovan-a...Moja prijateljica radi u spa na brodu i tamo je assis.menag.Isto je pocela na recepciji,isla na edukaciju u London ma sve kosta...Evo sad radi vec 8 godina...Malo li je?Prosla je sve moguce treninge,obuke....Nije bilo nimalo lako,as sta da se radi...A ti Suba preko koje agencije,kad imas razgovor u  BG?Polaze se masaza to znam,nasa skola njima ne znaci mnogo bitno da pokriva 150h prakticnog i teorijskog rada sto  znaci moze biti i kurs svi polazu i svi krecu od iste pozicije..Nema garanta ko ce proci....pozzzzz :-))))'

Hej, bila bih ti stvarno zahvalna na pomoci....pitanje je sledece: ja radim u spa centru i super mi je,idem vec drugi ugovor uskoro,i volela bih da povedem i decka. u pitanju je Carnival, i konkretno u beogradu nijedna agencija ne radi tu kompaniju,ja sam cula za Agenciju uspinjaca u Zagrebu,on se bavi ugostiteljstvom i zeleo bi da ide kao bartender. Mislis da postoji sansa da nekako dobijemo isti Carnival i da li vredi onda dolaziti u Zagreb iz Beograda i da li znas kada oni organizuju intervjue i da li postoji neka bolja agencija od te ili ne?

Bok svima...

Upravo je zavrsio moj prvi tjedan na Steiner akademiji za spa recepciju i mogu vam reci da je brutalno iscrpljujuce, ali fenomenalno... Jednostavno uzivam u svakoj sekundi...

Vidim da je intervju u Beogradu za Steiner, pa ako itko ima bilo kakvih pitanja, pitajte... Jer tu smo svi zajedno i puno se druzimo, i mogu vam reci sve o svakom zanimanju...

Mislim da ce me poslati za dva tjedna, nadam se... A onda tek pocinje avantura

Vjeruj mi da nije samo javljanje na telefone, to sam i ja mislila, a kad ono...

Moras znati apsolutno sve, ali sve, o svkaom tretmanu, proizvodu, bookiranje, javno govorenje...

Spa tour... Ne zamaras se masazama i slicno, ali oni svi su specijalizirani za samo jedno podrucje, a ja moram znati apsolutno sve...
Nije da se zalim, nego samo da ne bi neko mislio da je to samo zezancija, vjerujte mi da nije...

Ali je sve super, i ljudi i profesori.... Jako su strpljivi, i ako ne znas dobro engleski objasnit ce ti dodatno, tako da stvarno nema problema...  :-))))' :-))))'

Mozes sa 19, ne moras cekati... Ima puno ljudi sa 19, 20, mozes raditi jedino ne smijes piti na americkim brodovima jer nisi punoljetan, ali po europskom zakonu jesi... Tako da mozes probati, odmah...

Vjeruj mi, u Londonu sam i upoznala sam puno mladih ljudi, tako da ti govorim iz prve ruke...

          Dragi moji, puno ste mi pomogli i sada sam jos vise "zagrejana"  za rad na brodu. Ali, imam hiljadu pitanja ...Ove godine napunila sam 30 godina...na pola kurska masaze...usavrsavam engleski...Kakve su moje sanse? To bi,  recimo, volela da znam. Planiram da konkurisem tek  kad budem dovoljno sigurna u svoj "konunikacijski" engleski...   Zna li neko, koliko je pouzdana navedena agencija iz Sombora,sa prethodne strane...?
