Crewmember Wishing to Change Departments

Policy:   
XXXX Cruise Lines is an equal opportunity employer and shall welcome onboard crewmembers to apply for other positions with the appropriate management. The Department Heads will use their discretion in determining if the application should be forwarded to shore side management for further consideration.

Objective:
To provide all crewmembers with an equal opportunity to pursue other career opportunities.


Procedure:

   •   Should a crewmember wish to change departments, they must obtain a Request for Interview Form from the MSA (Admin Office).
   •   This form is completed by the crewmember and arrangements are made by the crewmember to meet with their present department head to discuss the possible change in position/department.
   •   The crewmember must indicate his name, id#, present department and position.
   •   The crewmember must indicate the department and position they are pursuing along with the reason/qualifications for the change in position/department.
   •   The present department head should then make the determination based on work performance and attitude whether they are qualified for the new position/department.
   •   The present department head should mark the form accordingly indicating
   •   Recommended For Change
-OR-
   •   Cannot Be Considered
   •   Manager –Shipboard Print Name
   •   Position
   •   Signature
   •   Date

   •   If the crewmember is found suitable for the change, the department head should make arrangements with the new department head to meet/interview with the candidate, supplying also the crewmember’s file for review.
   •   If the crewmember has a CV/resume, this should also be supplied.
   •   If the crewmember is not found suitable for the position, the present department head should address these concerns with the crewmember.

   •   For suitable candidates only:
   •   When the crewmember meets with the Guest Services Manager, the Guest Services Manager should review the Request for Interview form and applicants file and work performance history.
   •   The Guest Services Manager will want to ascertain the reasons why the crewmember is looking to change departments and position.
   •   The Guest Services Manager will want to ensure the crewmember has a clear understanding of the job description, duties and responsibilities.
   •   The Guest Services Manager should welcome questions and concerns and openly address those questions.
   •   The two parties should have a clear understanding of the position and the desire to change departments/positions.
   •   The Guest Services Manager should thank the applicant for their interest and advise them they will review their request.
   •   If the Guest Services Manager finds the applicant not suitable for the position, the applicant should be sent a formal letter.
   •   The application should be signed by the Guest Services Manager, indicating under “New Department” Cannot Be Considered, indicating
   •   Manager – Shipboard/Print Name
   •   Position
   •   Signature
   •   Date

   •   The letter should be addressed with the crewmember’s name and present position and crew Id#, reading:
   •   Thank you for expressing an interest and applying for a position of _____________. Although your qualifications are impressive, we feel that this position does not offer a close match to your qualifications and experience. We sincerely appreciate your interest and trust you will continue to perform well at your present position.

   •   The letter should be signed by the Department Manager and sent to the crewmember.
   •   A copy of the letter attached to the application should be filed in the crewmember’s file.
   •   If the crewmember is suitable for change, the application form should be completed to read under “New Department” Crewmember interviewed and suitable for change and signed,
   •   Manager – Shipboard/Print Name
   •   Position
   •   Signature
   •   Date

   •   The application along with the crewmember’s CV/resume should then be sent to the Manager, Guest Services Department.
   •   The only time the applications are sent shore side, is when a Guest Services Manager honestly feels this individual would exceed in the new position.
