FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The world's largest cruise ship slid next to a dock at Port Everglades on Friday after a two-week journey from Finland, where it was built.

As the $1.5 billion, 16-deck Oasis of the Seas entered the inlet, onlookers gasped in awe.

"This reminds me of the trucks that move whole houses," said Cindy Martinez, of Fort Lauderdale. "This is like a moving building."

Owned by Royal Caribbean International, the 1,184-foot, 226,000-ton ship will spend three weeks at the port before it makes its first regular voyage Dec. 5.

Until then, the cruise ship will host charity and VIP cruises, be loaded with provisions and outfitted with plants, serve as backdrop for a network morning news show and undergo safety and health inspections.

The vessel is almost 40 percent bigger than the cruise industry's next-largest ship and five times bigger than the Titanic. It features 2,700 cabins and can hold 6,300 passengers and 2,100 crew members.

Various "neighborhoods" are found throughout the vessel -- including themed arenas and parks.

Said Linda Glassholm of Dania Beach: "It's a floating city."
