Hello team, I’ll write a few things about the Assistant Waiter’s job on RCCL.
I was there a long time ago, 9 years ago, but I believe that not much has changed …

I was on the Grandeur of the Seas, salary was $50, but with the tips from passengers, my monthly income amounted to about $2.000.
I got the job through the agency in Zagreb, which took a commission to get me employment, of course. I flew from Zagreb to Paris to Washington and then to Baltimore by bus.

On board, you get your work uniforms and shoes, and you pay when you have the money.
The first month is the most difficult, with hard work you also get all kinds of training and you are on your feet 12-14 hours, which is extremely hard, and you’ll get the advice to sleep whenever you can, if only for 45 minutes, which I recommend. Accept the advice. Later after trainings finish, you’ll get used to the hard work easier.

Depending on the ship, your salary is $1.200 or $50. A guest gets pointers when embarks the ship as who to tip, how many waiters there are, assistant waiters, headwaiters, housekeeping …

You get the tip after last formal dinner that Cruise. It happens that the guests do not come to a restaurant on last night, in order to avoid giving tips, but luckily there are very few of those.

Initially your management put pressure on you from all sides because they want to eliminate from a team members that are mentally weak. There was a one guy who joined the ship together with me, assistant waiter as me, he returned home after 7 days, couldn’t take the pressure. If you are nervous person do not even try to get a job on the ship, it would be waste of your time, effort and money.

Every fifth cruise assistant waiters work in the Windjammer, self service restaurant where there’s no tip from passengers, but anyway, I had a $2.000 per month even with the Windjammer.

Try to be less sick, because when you are, you don’t earn money.
The rest will come to you in time. Grandeur of the Seas is not a bad ship, it is difficult but after a while you get used to it. You get to see the world, meet different people and earn a nice profit.

  1. First things first: Please, Please Please do not call a ship a boat. Never, ever. What kind of job you could do onborad a cruise ship depends on your past work experience. Like everywhere else, your pay depends on the postion you have and therefore what you qualify for. cool places: You will work 10-15 hours a day, 7 days a week, 6 to 10 months straight so you might not see too many cool places !!!How to get a job there: Apply Depending on what you are qualified for, there are different places to apply to.e.g Shops, Casino, Photographers, Spa are mostly under concession, so the cruise line does not hire the people directly.
